Isanti Spirits Distillery is a small batch craft distillery located in Isanti, Minnesota Founded by Rick Schneider. They specialize in rye whiskey, gin, and bourbon. They also sell vodka, rum, and a few other spirits. You will see Rick walking around the distillery talking to guests or creating some sort of amazing art in the glass blowing studio connected to the distillery. It is the only distillery in Minnesota to also have a glass blowing studio. He is very approachable and has some great stories about how they came to be.
This is the place that made us fall in love with Rye Whiskey and we have been hard-pressed to find another that ranks this high. It is a small-batch rye whiskey made with grains grown in Minnesota and barrels coopered in the state. Let me see if I can do it justice in my explanation. Isanti Rye Whiskey has a rich, complex flavor profile! The spicy character is typical of rye, while the vanilla and caramel notes suggest some influence from the aging process, likely coming from the oak barrels. These characteristics give it a smooth sweetness that balances the peppery, herbal kick of rye. Try it in the old fashions or as a sour, order it neat or rocks. You will not go round. Many have told us they don't like whiskey until we take them here.
Speaking of their cocktails, let’s start talking about them, as you can see from Bailey’s List of top 5 Whiskey Sours the Isanti Sour is what introduced her to Rye Whiskey and the whiskey sours. This is the one that all others are rated by. If you know Bailey she is not easily swayed. Take it from me I am her sister.
One of my favorite drinks is from here as well, it’s the Black Cherry Mojito, this was the first place I ever had a mojito and honestly no place makes them better. They are the perfect amount of sweet and the right amount of mint.
Another thing we need to mention is that Isanti Spirits will have entertainment year-round. In the summer they have their seasonal concert series. Year round you might catch a comedy show featuring local acts as well as special musical guests. In the Winter you can reserve a seat at the rail and get front row view to watch Rick or one of his students create some sort of glass blowing art while you are drinking one of the amazing cocktails. It's hard to take your eyes off the beauty of this art. Bonus it's toasty warm.
On Sundays, they have a build your own bloody bar, so if you are a fan of blood Mary’s this is the place to go to on Sundays. We have been there many times, meeting up with friends and family to catch up. You can bring a meal, snacks or stop by a local restaurant and pick up takeout. Back to Captains has great pizza and the Bradford Pub and Grub is just down the road. Of course they also have their own snacks available for purchase.
